BUILT IN 1888 BY RICHARDSON, DUCK & CO. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY BRITISH & EASTERN SHIPPING. PASSAGE HAMBURG FOR SAN DIEGO. ENCOUNTERED DENSE FOG AND HAD ANCHORED, MAKING THE CORRECT SOUND SIGNAL. WAS RAMMED BY BRITISH BATTLESHIP HMS CAESAR WHICH WAS PROCEEDING IN COMPANY WITH OTHER UNITS OF THE CHANNEL FLEET. SANK IMMEDIATELY. 17 MEN LOST. (DODS & SIBI).
