The shipwreck of the World Harmony is located underwater in the Black Sea near the coast of Istanbul, Turkey, specifically near Kirich Burnu, with coordinates 41 8.2 N, 29 4.167 E. Historical hydrographic survey records from 1961 detail the wreck position and the placement of a black and red spherical quick-flashing light buoy laid close northwest of the bow, which was later moved 40 meters eastwards. By November 1965, official notices ordered the deletion of the dangerous wreck and marking buoy from navigation charts, marking the site as dead.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT 1954 BY VICKERS ARMSTRONG WITH TURBINE ENGINES. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY WORLD TANKERS CORPORATION. GREEK TANKER WORLD HARMONY, BOUND FOR NOVOROSSISK IN BALLAST, COLLIDED WITH THE YUGOSLAV TANKER PETAR ZORANIC, LOADED WITH BENZINE & PETROL. BOTH VESSELS CAUGHT FIRE AND DRIFTED ON TO THE TURKISH SS TARSUS ANCHORED NEAR ISTINYE. ALL 3 SHIPS WERE EVENTUALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE, WITH TOTAL LOSS OF 52 LIVES. (DODS)
