Simplified Wreck Survey

The wreck of the Wilston is located off the coast of Cornwall, near Wicca Sands, at coordinates 50 12.472 N, 5 33.482 W. Previously identified as a potential underwater obstruction, this site was surveyed in 2011 revealing debris with a least depth of 8.61 meters in an area with a general depth of 16.3 meters. The structural remains were measured at 23.6 meters long, 17.0 meters wide, and 7.74 meters high, lying on an east-west orientation. However, subsequent diving operations conducted in 2016 found no physical evidence of the wreck or debris at this position, leading to the wreck being classified as dead and removed from active navigational records.

BR STD. 30.7.18 WRECK DIVED IN 2016 NO EVIDENCE OF WRECK OR WRECKAGE AROUND VICINITY OF POSN QUOTED, INTENSLY DIVED. (GRAHAM LOCKETT, NAVAL AIR COMMAND, SAC). AMEND DEAD.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1916 BY R DUNCAN, PORT GLASGOW. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS THE WISTON SS CO LTD. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT PASSAGE NEWPORT FOR LA GOULETTE. DROVE ASHORE AND WAS WRECKED. ALL HANDS LOST. (SIBI).
