Simplified Wreck Survey
The wreck of the Tayleur is located off the coast of Lambay Island, Ireland, at coordinates 53 29.574 N, 5 59.88 W. Historically significant as one of the largest vessels of her era, the Tayleur was lost due to navigational errors and mechanical failure. Today, the wreck sits at a general depth of 11.6 meters, with a least multibeam depth of 9.31 meters. The site remains a well-known underwater obstruction, measuring 70 meters in length and 12 meters in width. The wreckage is heavily broken, consisting of scattered girders, plating, and a distinct small boiler measuring 5 feet in diameter that stands 3 feet above the seabed. Divers and historians have documented a variety of cargo remaining at the site, including roofing slates, tombstone fragments, crockery, wine, and beer bottles. The site is recognized for its historical maritime importance and its proximity to the southeast corner of Lambay Island.
