Simplified Wreck Survey
The Storm Drift is an underwater shipwreck located off the coast of England in the North Sea, near Flamborough Head, Yorkshire, with precise coordinates 54 7.011 N, 0 12.527 E. Historical hydrographic surveys from the UK Hydrographic Office document the deterioration of the wreck over time. Initial reports from 1980 noted a mast height of 35 feet and a charted depth of 35 meters. A 1981 survey by HMS Bulldog located the wreck using HiFix positioning at a least echo sounder depth of 46.3 meters in a general depth of 50.9 meters, with no seabed scour, a vertical height of 5.9 meters, and dimensions of 17 meters in length by 3.5 meters in beam, lying on an orientation of 020/200 degrees. A comprehensive multibeam examination in March 2016 by MMT found the wreck considerably degraded with a strong magnetic anomaly. The updated structural measurements record a least multibeam depth of 51.88 meters in a general depth of 53 meters, with a length of 15 meters, a width of 9 meters, and a height of 1 meter, oriented along a 226/046 degree axis, resulting in the wreck being amended to a non-dangerous wreck at a depth of 51 meters in its revised position.
