WRECKED ON WEST CALF ISLAND WITH LOSS OF 92 LIVES, 18 RESCUED. WRECK WENT TO PIECES IN HALF AN HOUR. ON PASSAGE NEW YORK TO LIVERPOOL. CAPT MISTOOK ROCK ISLAND LT FOR OLD HEAD OF KINSALE. IT WAS FOLLOWING THIS TRADEGY THAT THE DECISION WAS MADE TO CONSTRUCT FASTNET LT. (SHIPWRECKS OF THE IRISH COAST, E BOURKE)
