Circumstances of loss

WHILST EN ROUTE FROM CANADA TO BOULOGNE, A FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE ENGINE ROOM, SPREADING TO THE ACCOMMODATION DECK & BRIDGE BEFORE BEING EXTINGUISHED. AS THE VESSEL WAS MAKING WATER, HER 15 MAN CREW ABANDONDED SHIP AND WERE SAFELY PICKED UP. THE VESSEL DRIFTED AWAY SLOWLY SINKING. A LATER SEARCH WAS NEGATIVE, RESUMED SHE SANK SOON AFTER BEING ABANDONDED. (MSD).
