Simplified Wreck Survey

The famous shipwreck SS Stavronikita rests off the coast of Bridgetown, Barbados, at coordinates 13 8.656 N, 59 38.592 W. Originally a Greek merchant vessel, the ship suffered a severe fire before being towed out and intentionally scuttled on November 28, 1978, to serve as an artificial reef and underwater attraction. Sitting upright on an even keel in a general water depth of 35 meters, the wreck has a length of 105 meters, a width of 17.5 meters, and a height of 22 meters. Hydrographic surveys and diver inspections report the wreck is in good structural condition, increasingly covered in coral and marine growth with no significant scouring. While modern LiDAR surveys record a least depth of 13.46 meters, diver-verified reports maintain a least depth of 5.5 meters. The site is historically marked by a navigational light buoy at its southwest end.
