The wreck of the vessel Star of Mecca is located in the Gulf of Aden at coordinates 14 31.615 N, 49 7.883 E. Originally reported in 1963 as sitting upright on an even keel and pointing NNW, the site has undergone significant changes over the decades. While early reports suggested the wreck could be mistaken for a small vessel at anchor, subsequent surveys confirmed its identity. By 1986, reports indicated that the wreck had been broken up, and a 2001 survey noted that only the engine remains of the structure. The current charted position for the Star of Mecca is 14 31.615 N, 49 7.883 E, confirming its status as an underwater obstruction in the region.
