The historic wooden shipwreck Star of Hope lies off the coast of the United Kingdom in the Irish Sea near the Welsh coastline, with exact coordinates 53 35.724 N, 3 5.004 W. This submerged wooden wreck measures approximately 30 to 40 meters in length (about 120 feet) with a beam or width of 6 to 8 meters (22 feet). The structural description of the remains indicates a wooden vessel oriented with bows facing south, featuring four hatch openings forward of the mainmast and one visible aft, though the majority of the wreck remains heavily buried beneath shifting sandbanks. Depending on tidal conditions and sand movement, parts of the timbers periodically dry from half tide or rise up to 2 meters above the seabed.

(R J LLOYD, LTR DTD 8.4.05). INS AS WK (NO DEPTH SPECIFIED). BR STD. 18.12.06 LIES IN 5335.723N, 0305.003W [WGD]. LIES BOWS S AND DRIES FROM HALF TIDE. HAS BEEN COVERED TO THE MID 1980S, WHEN A SHIFT IN THE SANDBANKS MEANT SHE WAS PARTIALLY SHOWING. TWO WEEKS AGO THE VESSEL WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY COVERED AGAIN ONLY SHOWING 4 TIMBERS, 2 AT THE STERN AND 2 AT THE BOW. LENGTH APPROX 120FT, BEAM 22FT. FOUR HATCH OPENINGS FWD OF MAINMAST, ONE VISIBLE AFT BUT 2/3 OF WK LIES UNDER SAND. (M GRIFFITHS). NCA.

BUILT IN 1865 BY STEPHENS, PETERHEAD. GERMAN FLAGGED. PASSAGE WILMINGTON, N CAROLINA FOR LIVERPOOL. BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN CAUGHT IN A SW FORCE 10 AND FOUNDERED. CREW RECOVERED. VESSEL AND CARGO BECAME A TOTAL LOSS. (R J LLOYD).
