The historic shipwreck Stanburgh lies off the Mediterranean coast of France in the Gulf of Lion, near Marseille and the French Riviera, at coordinates 43 25.525 N, 3 38.067 E. Historical hydrographic survey records from the UK Hydrographic Office note that this underwater obstruction was originally charted following French cartographic data from 1979. Subsequent maritime surveys conducted in late October 1980 reported that the wreck was no longer visible at the surface. By February 1985, official admiralty notices and Brest navigational reports confirmed that the wreck was officially deleted from active navigational charts, indicating it is now a submerged archaeological site or completely broken up on the seabed.
