Simplified Wreck Survey
The wreck of the vessel SHELBRIT 1 is located off the coast of the Moray Firth, Scotland, at coordinates 57 40.166 N, 3 57.584 W. Originally recorded as sunk in 1940 following navigation incidents near the Cromarty Occulting Light, the site underwent various charting updates throughout the 20th century. Historical survey records designated the obstruction as a Dangerous Wreck (DW) and Non-Dangerous Wreck (NDW) at different intervals. By 1951, the site was officially classified as a wreck with a depth of 47 feet (14.1 meters). Following subsequent hydrographic surveys in July 1975 using transit sonar, the obstruction was not located, and the wreck status for SHELBRIT 1 was amended to dead and removed from active maritime navigational charts.

BUILT IN 1928 BY SWAN, HUNTER & WIGHAM RICHARDSON. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE BRITISH TANKER CO. OIL ENGINE OF 286NHP. PASSAGE GRANGEMOUTH FOR INVERNESS. SANK FOLLOWING AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE. CREW OF 21 LOST. (DODS). LOSS PROBABLY DUE TO INTERNAL CAUSE AND NOT MAGNETIC MINE. (LL WW2).
