BUILT IN 1973 BY VEB SCHIFFSW. ''NEPTUN'', ROSTOCK. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY USSR-SOVIET DANUBE SHIPPING CO. WHILE PASSING THROUGH SULINA CHANNEL, PASSAGE RENI FOR TUNIS, STRUCK LEFT BANK WHEN RUDDER JAMMED. VESSEL WAS PUSHED BY CURRENT UNTIL STERN WAS HELD BY RIGHT BANK OF CHANNEL AND EVENTUALLY BROKE IN TWO AND SANK, COMPLETELY BLOCKING CHANNEL AND CAUSING FLOODING. (MSD).
