Circumstances of loss

VESSEL, BUILT 1965, WAS ON PASSAGE SIDON FOR DONGES WHEN IT CALLED AT VIGO TO LAND A SICK CREWMEMBER. SHE RAN AGROUND ON A REEF WHILE LEAVING VIGO & WAS HOLED, OIL SPILLED FROM HER HOLDS. FIRES BROKE OUT ON THE VESSEL & A SPARK FROM THE EXHAUST OF A PASSING VESSEL IGNITED THE OIL ON THE WATER, ENGULFING THE TANKER IN FLAMES. ALL CREW WERE SAVED. OWNED AT THE TIME OF LOSS BY EINAR RASMUSSEN. THE VESSEL WAS REFLOATED, REPAIRED & RETURNED TO SERVICE RENAMED 'YANXILAS'. (DODS).
