Simplified Wreck Survey
The wreck of the Pennsylvania is located off the coast of Swona Island, Scotland, at coordinates 58 44.841 N, 3 4.055 W. This underwater obstruction lies on the west side of Swona Island, positioned just below and to the west of a rock pinnacle that is awash at low water. The underwater site features a steep seabed topography, with a 40-foot drop from the pinnacle down to the remains of the vessel, which then slopes sharply to a depth of 90 feet. The structural remains of the Pennsylvania are well broken, with the stern, propeller shaft, engines, and keel located at the base of the pinnacle. Other wreckage parts are scattered westward down the slope. Very little of the original structure remains, and the majority of the wreck is covered in thick sea whip. This historical wreck was formerly owned by a syndicate of farmers and fishermen from Wick.

FROM PINNACLE TO WK A DROP OF 40FT. THE SEABED THEN SLOPES STEEPLY TO 90FT. STERN, PROP SHAFT, ENGINES & KEEL LIE AT BASE OF PINNACLE & PARTS SCATTERED DOWN THE SLOPE WESTWARD. LITTLE OF WK LEFT & GREATER PART COVERED WITH THICK SEA WHIP. OWNED BY SYNDICATE OF FARMERS & FISHERMEN OF WICK. (UNDERMARINE OPERATIONS LTD, 1971). NCA.

MACHINERY BY NE MARINE ENGINE CO LTD, NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYEN. PASSAGE NEW YORK FOR COPENHAGEN. STRUCK ROCKS AND SANK IN FOG. LATER BROKE UP AND BECAME A CTL. (SIBI).
