Circumstances of loss

BUILT OF IRON IN 1874 BY THE LONDON & GLASGOW CO OF GOVERN. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY JAMES GOURLEY BRIDGES OF LEITH. SINGLE BOILER, COMPOUND ENGINE OF 150 HP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE REIGKJAVIK FOR GRANTON. CARGO PONIES, BALED WOOL AND FISH. STRANDED ON LANGATON POINT AFTER BEING LOST IN FOG IN VARIABLE EASTERLY WINDS. THE 482 PONIES WERE LOWERED OVER THE SIDE AND SWAM ASHORE, BUT A LOCAL NEWSPAPER REPORTED THAT OVER 110 DROWNED IN NO 2 HOLD. BROKE IN TWO SEVEN DAYS LATER, THE BOW REMAINING ON THE ROCKS AND THE STERN SINKING.
