Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck OUERDA is an underwater wreck and navigational obstruction located in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Sfax, Tunisia, at coordinates 34 42.682 N, 10 47.941 E, approximately 2 nautical miles from the Sfax Lighthouse. First recorded by hydrographic surveys in January 1936 as a dangerous underwater obstruction, the wreck was re-surveyed later that year at a depth of 3.9 meters (13 feet) and marked with a green spar buoy. Subsequent survey updates between 1940 and 1950 confirmed a minimum depth over the site ranging between 11 feet and 13 feet (3.9 meters), with various green navigational buoys stationed nearby to alert passing vessel traffic. In April 1966, maritime notices confirmed the withdrawal of the marker buoy off Sfax. French and British Admiralty chart revisions, including BA Chart 1162, updated the location details, placing the final charted position of the OUERDA underwater wreck at coordinates 34 42.682 N, 10 47.941 E with a least depth of 3.9 meters.
