Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck MOBILE is located off the coast of the Outer Hebrides near the Butt of Lewis at coordinates 58.80508N, 6.82885W. This historic World War I vessel was torpedoed by a submarine approximately 25 miles northwest of the Butt of Lewis. Although historical filing records originally suggested a position of 584820N, 064940W, subsequent surveys conducted by HMS Herald using Simrad sonar were unable to locate the wreckage at that site, leading to the classification of the wreck as dead. It is possible that the wreckage identified as the MOBILE corresponds to an unknown underwater obstruction located at 584312N, 065012W. These maritime coordinates are essential for hydrographic mapping and underwater navigation in the North Atlantic waters near Scotland.
