Simplified Wreck Survey

The Mercator is an underwater wreck located off the coast of Buchan Ness in the North Sea at coordinates 57 24.287 N, 1 34.603 W. Originally reported in December 1939 approximately 7.5 miles from Buchan Ness Light, the site has a history of shifting position data and subsequent surveys. A potential wreck was later identified nearby during a pipeline survey in 1975, though the site was officially deleted from charts in 1977 and could not be located during a modern multibeam sonar survey by Gardline in March 2010.
