Simplified Wreck Survey

Underwater wreck site of the Marshall possibly located at coordinates 53 39.534 N, 0 16.929 E featuring structural descriptions including a small coastal vessel about 120 feet long with a boiler standing about 8 feet high in a general depth of 50 feet consisting mainly of an engine and metal plates though a subsequent survey in 2013 using multibeam sonar was unable to locate the obstruction and marked it as dead.

27.5.88 SMALL WK LOCATED IN 533952N, 001703E. LIES IN A SCOUR WITH BOILER STANDING ABOUT 8FT HIGH, IN GEN DEPTH 50FT. CONSISTS MAINLY OF ENGINE AND METAL PLATES. (M OXLADE, TELECON 25.5.88). INS AS WK 12MTRS. BR STD. 31.8.89 POSN NOW GIVEN AS 533931N, 001702E [OGB]. SMALL COASTAL VESSEL, ABOUT 120FT LONG AND THOUGHT POSSIBLY TO BE THE MARSHALL. (M OXLADE, TELECON). AMEND POSN. BR STD. 6.9.13 NOT LOCATED 7.1.13 USING M/B. (NETSURVEY, HI 1401). AMEND DEAD.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1846 BY SHIELDS. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE ELBE & HUMBER S NAVIGATION CO. COMPOUND ENGINES OF 80 RHP FOR 9 KNOTS. PRESUMED SANK FOLLOWING COLLISION WITH BARQUE WOODHOUSE WHILE ON PASSAGE HAMBURG TO HULL. CREW OF 18 AND 30 PASSENGERS.
