Circumstances of loss

BUILT OF WOOD IN 1917 BY PUEBLO NUEVO DEL NARE, VALENCIA. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY MARK LITCHFIELD. RIGGED AS A BARQUE. PASSAGE BERMUDA FOR HALIFAX IN THE TALL SHIPS RACE. WAS STRUCK BY A HUGE WAVE IN A VIOLENT STORM-FORCE SQUALL AND SANK IN 45 SECONDS. OF A CREW OF 28, THE 19 ON DECK WERE THROWN CLEAR AND SURVIVED. HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN USED IN FILMS AND IN THE 'ONEDIN LINE' ON TELEVISION. (MSD).
