Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck Mandalay is located off the coast of North Yorkshire, England, at coordinates 54 24.641 N, 0 29.302 W. Originally recorded as a wreck site, historical survey data indicates the structure is now totally collapsed and decayed. The remains of the Mandalay, which lie amongst kelp and boulders, consist of a few scattered iron plates, a section of boiler, an anchor, and a length of rusting chain. Although previously identified as a foul obstruction, subsequent multibeam surveys conducted in 2016 failed to locate the wreckage, leading to its classification as a dead site.

NOW TOTALLY COLLAPSED AND DECAYED. LIES AMONGST KELP AND BOULDERS. ALL THAT REMAINS ARE A FEW IRON PLATES, A SECTION OF BOILER, AN ANCHOR AND A LENGTH OF RUSTING CHAIN. (R YOUNG). INS AS FOUL. BR STD. SEP 2017/000002822 25.5.17 NOT LOCATED IN M/B SURVEY 2016. (MMT, HI 1491). AMEND DEAD.

BUILT IN 1890 BY COOK, WELTON & GEMMEL. OWNED BY GEORGE BEECHING & THOMAS KELSALL OF HULL. SINGLE BOILER, COMPOUND ENGINE OF 50 HP FOR 10 KNOTS. SINGLE SHAFT. MACHINERY BY C D HOLMES OF HULL. RAN AGROUND IN THICK FOG AND BECAME A TOTAL WRECK. CREW RESCUED.
