Surveying Details 2.2.77 SINKING POSN GIVEN AS 085000N, 703000E, APPROX. (LL 25.1.77). IN OVER 4100MTRS. HH502/350/01 6.6.90 AUSTRIAN COURT HAS ORDERED THIS WK TO BE LIFTED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE HOW SHE WAS SUNK! (LL 4.6.90). HH120/350/01 20.3.91 WK LOCATED AT A DEPTH OF 14500FT BY EASTPORT INTERNATIONAL USING A ROBOT SONAR DEVICE TO PHOTOGRAPH AND VIDEO THE WKGE. THE STERN IS BASICALLY INTACT BUT REMAINDER OF VESSEL HAS BEEN REDUCED TO SMALL PIECES SPREAD OVER AN AREA 0.5 MILE WIDE. WK WAS FOUND AFTER SEARCHING A 450 SQ MILE AREA NEAR THE MALDIVES FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. WK IDENTIFIED BY SECTION OF HULL WHICH BORE THE NAME OF OWNERS AND PIECES OF CARGO KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN ONBOARD. AN EXPLOSION DEFINITELY CONSIDERED TO HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF HER SINKING. (LL 13, 14.2.91).

25.1.77 EXPLODED AND SANK IMMEDIATELY IN INDIAN OCEAN WHILE ON PASSAGE CHIOGGIA TO HONG KONG. (LL 25.1.77). SINKING NOW CONSIDERED TO HAVE BEEN DELIBERATE BY MEANS OF AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE CONCEALED IN THE CARGO, WHICH IS NOW THOUGHT TO BE SCRAP METAL. THE SCUTTLING HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS A SERIOUS ATTEMPT AT MARITIME FRAUD. (MSD). OWNER OF VESSEL, UDO PROKSCH, SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN JAIL FOR MURDER AND MARITIME FRAUD. (LL).
