Circumstances of loss

PASSAGE SWANSEA FOR CALLAO. WENT ASHORE ON N COAST OF GRAND JASON. ONE MEMBER OF CREW OF 20 WAS PERCHED ON OUTER END OF JIBBOOM AS SHIP RAN ON TO STEEPLY SHELVING ROCKY FORESHORE IN THICK WEATHER, & WAS DUMPED ONTO THE ISLAND AS THE VESSEL SLID BACK INTO DEEP WATER, SINKING ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. HE WAS RESCUED AFTER SURVIVING ON THE ISLAND FOR EIGHTEEN MONTHS. (FALKLAND ISLAND SHORES, PUBLISHED 1985).
