The shipwreck of the vessel KALTIM RAYA is located at coordinates 6 25 S, 114 25 E, positioned approximately 50 meters south of Masalembo Island in the Java Sea. Originally reported sunk in early 1989 by the Directorate General of Sea Communications in Jakarta and subsequently noted in Indonesian Notices to Mariners, historical hydrographic survey records from the UK Hydrographic Office indicate that the wreck was later investigated, not shown on subsequent regional navigational charts, and officially amended to a dead or deleted status.
