EIGHT PORTHOLES RECOVERED FROM A SECTION OF HULL PLATES THAT UNCOVERED AFTER A STORM LAST YEAR. (R YOUNG). NCA, POSN 5500.30N, 0125.1W [OGB].

Circumstances of loss

25.5.41 BUILT IN 1930 BY FAIRFIELD & CO, GLASOW. ORIGINALLY OWNED BY THE SOUTHERN RAILWAY CO AND EMPLOYED BETWEEN PORTSMOUTH AND THE ISLE OF WIGHT. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE ADMIRALTY. TWO BOILERS, COMPOUND ENGINE OF 213HP, PADDLE PROPULSION. HIRED AS A MINESWEEPER FROM 2.1940. STRUCK A MINE OFF S SHIELDS AND SANK BETWEEN THE PIERS. CARRIED INSHORE ON 25.5.41 AND BEACHED THE FOLLOWING DAY. HANDED OVER TO BREAKERS AND BROKEN UP ON THE SPOT.
