UK Hydrographic Office wreck details for HMS Sarah Alice potentially Sarah Anne located at coordinates 59 43.308 N 1 41.808 W off the coast of Scotland near the Shetland Islands and North Sea. Historical records note the vessel was originally reported sunk in December 1974 and later identified through fishermen obstruction reports and DGPS surveys. Modern hydrographic examinations confirm the underwater wreck lies broken into two distinct sections in a general depth of 111 meters with a least echo sounder depth of 107.6 meters and no seabed scour. The northern section measures 31 meters long by 8 meters wide standing 4.2 meters high oriented at 100/280 degrees while the southern section measures 23 meters long by 8 meters wide standing 6.4 meters high oriented at 000/180 degrees.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1911 BY SMITH'S DOCK CO LTD, MIDDLESBROUGH. ONE BOILER, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 91NHP, SINGLE SHAFT. REQUISITIONED IN 1915. WAS ON PATROL WITH HMS CONQUEROR II WHEN SIGNALLED TO STOP TO SPEAK TO CONQUEROR'S MASTER. WAS STRUCK BY A TORPEDO FIRED BY U-52, WHICH HAD BEED AIMED AT CONQUEROR. AS CONQUEROR LOWERED BOATS TO RECOVER SURVIVORS, SHE WAS ALSO TORPEDOED. (SIBI).
