Simplified Wreck Survey
The wreck of HMS Recepto is located off the North East coast of England near the River Tees estuary at coordinates 54 40.641 N, 1 8.398 W. Originally identified as a vessel destroyed by a mine in 1938, historical surveys described the ship as lying on its side with significant damage to the after portion. Subsequent underwater investigations confirmed that the wreck is now totally collapsed and well broken. Modern surveys conducted in 2017 and 2018 failed to locate any significant structure, resulting in the site being officially amended to dead. Where once a wreck stood, only battered remains of engine components, scattered steel plates, frames, ribs, and sections of the bow were previously identified in a shallow seabed scour. The site is currently considered cleared for maritime navigation.

APPARENTLY LYING ON ITS SIDE WITH THE AFTER PORTION, FROM THE FUNNEL, FLATTENED AND PARTIALLY DISPERSED, PRESUMABLY BY THE EXPLOSION OF THE MINE. (TEES CONSERVANCY, 25.7.38). - NM 1630/38. H1323/38 1.11.48 OROPESA SWEEP AFTER DISPERSAL - CLEARED WHEN SET WITHIN 6FT OF THE BOTTOM. SCOUR LOCATED BY E/S IN 544036N, 010816W. (HMS SHARPSHOOTER, 9.2.49). INS AS 6FMS 1FT [11.1MTRS]. - NM 2374/48. HH100/351/16 20.6.00 WK IS TOTALLY COLLAPSED AND WELL DISPERSED. JUST THE BATTERED REMAINS OF THE ENGINE, A FEW STEEL PLATES, FRAMES, RIBS AND SECTIONS OF THE BOWS PROTRUDE ABOVE THE SEABED IN A HALF METRE SCOUR. (R YOUNG). MACHINERY BY C D HOLMES. STEEL HULL. REQUISITIONED BY THE RN IN NOVEMBER 1914. CONVERTED TO BECOME HM MINESWEEPER FY-47. FOUNDERED AFTER STRIKING A MINE LAID BY UC 30.
