Simplified Wreck Survey

HMS Medea is an underwater wreck located off the UK coast at coordinates 50 33.899 N, 4 55.864 W. Believed to be a Medusa-class minelayer, historical surveys and aerial photography confirm that the site is well broken up with virtually nothing remaining except scattered iron plates and a small iron post from historical scrapping activities. Situated outside the main navigable area, the remains lie both above and below the high-water line, posing no danger to vessels and offering no use as a navigational mark.

BUILT IN 1915 BY SIR RAYLTON DIXON & CO. ORIGINALLY MONITOR M 22. TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINES OF 650 NHP, TWIN SHAFT. CONVERTED TO MINELAYING TENDER FOR HMS VERNON AFTER WW1. BROKE TOW OFF TREVOSE HD WHILE BEING TOWED TO BREAKERS AND WAS LOST ON TREBETHERICK BAR. 1 MAN LOST. WAS SCRAPPED WHERE SHE LAY. (CORNISH SHIPWRECKS VOL 2 & SIBI).
