H- 25.4.85 TRANSCRIPTION OF LETTER WRITTEN BY M CARTCHELL, SURVIVOR OF THE WRECK, ON 10.12.1817 INDICATES THAT THIS VESSEL WAS WRECKED 5 MINUTES AFTER ANCHOR CABLE PARTED AND THAT THIS WAS LET GO UNDER THE LEE OF MUTTON ISLAND. PUBLIC RECORDS INDICATE THAT ALL THE SHIP WAS EVENTUALLY SALVAGED. (BT ALBOROUGH-TREGEAR, 14.4.85 IN NRE 31B/2644). POSN THEREFORE 524830N, 092930W, APPROX. H1310/86/26 7.10.86 WK LOCATED IN 524630N, 092944W [OSI]., BELIEVED TO BE THAT OF HMS MARTIN. POSN BY COMPASS BEARINGS. (J GILL, 24.9.86). CANNON BALLS AND BALLAST BAR RECOVERED FROM SITE. APPLICATION TO PURCHASE WK MADE BY J GILL. (NNS/23C/1848, 1.10.86). H1270/84 7.10.86 INS AS NDW PA IN 524630N, 092944W.
