Circumstances of loss

VESSEL, BUILT 1845 BY DEVONPORT DOCKYARD. ON PASSAGE FROM GIBRALTAR TO MALTA. POSSIBLY CARRIED OFF HER COURSE DUE TO A SET OF THE SEA TO THE SOUTHWARD FROM 17 TO 34M OVER THREE DAYS. RAN AGROUND ON SORELLI ROCKS, QUICKLY BROKE UP AND SANK. ONLY 4 SURVIVORS FROM CREW OF 250. (NAUTICAL MAGAZINE, 1848 & DODS).
