Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck H I KROYER is a historically documented underwater obstruction located approximately 9 miles southeast of Sule Skerry off the coast of Scotland. Although initial nautical charts listed the wreck at coordinates 58 58.64 N, 4 12.086 W, subsequent deep-sea sonar investigations and echo sounder surveys conducted in the area failed to locate the structure. During these extensive search operations, anomalies detected nearby were determined to be natural seabed features rather than the remains of the H I KROYER. Consequently, the site has been removed from official navigational records as a dangerous underwater obstruction. Sailors and divers should be aware that the original position 58 58.64 N, 4 12.086 W in the waters near Sule Skerry is no longer recognized as containing a sunken vessel or hazardous wreckage.

CONTACTS OBTAINED IN 585858N, 040245W & 590057N, 041254W DURING SEARCH WERE BOTH INTERPRETED AS NATURAL FEATURES. (BUE SUBSEA LTD, HI 204). DELETED. BR STD.

Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1962 BY ORSKOVS STAAL SKIBSVAERFT, FREDERIKSHAVN. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY I/S REDERIET H I DROYER. FIVE CYLINDER OIL ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. MACHINERY AFT. PASSAGE OSLO FOR WESTON POINT. SANK FOLLOWING AN EXPLOSION, THOUGHT, BY THE MASTER,TO BE DUE TO STRIKING A WWII MINE. VESSEL BURNED FOR AN HOUR BEFORE SINKING. SURVIVORS PICKED UP 28 HOURS LATER IN 7 MILES NNW OF DUNNET HEAD. (SIBI & LL).
