Simplified Wreck Survey

The wreck of the Guadiamar is located off the coast of Ondarroa, Spain, at the coordinates 43 19.5 N, 2 24.833 W in the Bay of Biscay. The vessel sank 300 meters east of the entrance to the port of Ondarroa. Historical surveying details indicate the wreck was originally positioned 325 to 330 meters from the Barracomuturra light. Extensive salvage and removal operations were conducted on the site following the sinking. In 1977, the wreck was officially marked for expungement from hydrographic charts as the structure was successfully lifted and removed from the seabed. This historical underwater obstruction record serves as a reference for the Guadiamar wreck site at 43 19.5 N, 2 24.833 W near the Spanish coastline.

VESSEL WAS CARRYING A FULL LOAD OF SILT OUT TO SEA WHEN IT SANK 300MTRS E OF THE PORT ENTRANCE. IT IS THOUGHT TO HAVE STRUCK A ROCK & SPRUNG A LEAK. (LLOYDS VOL.212).
