Circumstances of loss
17.10.94 FERRY CARRYING A BRIDAL PARTY OF 216 PASSENGERS SANK IN ROUGH SEAS 40KM FROM COX'S BAZAR, NEAR MATABARI ISLAND, BETWEEN KUTUBDIA AND MAHESHKHALI ISLANDS. THE MASTER HAD GONE FOR A REST AND HIS ASSISTANT WAS IN CHARGE OF THE VESSEL WHEN IT SANK. DEATH TOLL LIKELY TO BE OVER A 100, 50 PASSENGERS (INCLUDING THE GROOM) SWAM TO SHORE.
