Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1857 AT STOCKTON. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY J DUFF. BROKE DOWN OFF HOLYHEAD AND SAILED TO RAMSAY BAY. COULD NOT MAKE SHELTER THERE OWNING TO ADVERSE WINDS SO SHE ANCHORED OFF RAVENGLASS. CREW OF 7 LEFT HER IN A SMALL BOAT AND THE MASTER PROCEEDED TO MARYPORT TO ENGAGE A TUG. WHEN THE MASTER AND CREW RETURNED THE NEXT MORNING THE VESSEL HAD VANISHED. PRESUMED FOUNDERED IN THE NIGHT. (A CORKILL).
