| Surveying Details | SUNK IN POSN 12 MILES S X W 0.5 W FROM ANVIL PT. (WW1SL). HH100/351/17 17.7.01 DIVED IN 5008.36N, 0238.72W [OGB]. GEN DEPTH 65MTRS BY DIVE COMPUTER. SEABED GRAVEL. LIES ON PORT SIDE, NEARLY INVERTED. THE STERN IS TO THE SOUTH WHERE THE PROP AND THE BROKEN-OFF RUDDER CAN BE SEEN. THERE IS A BIG HOLE IN THE HULL NEAR THE STERN WHERE THE BOILERS CAN BE SEEN. THE HULL IS PARTLY BURIED IN GRAVEL AND A BANK OF GRAVEL COVERS THE WK NEAR MIDSHIPS. HAS BEEN POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED BY THE BELL. (N R CHIPCHASE, LTR DTD 7.01). INS AS NDW. BR STD. BUILT IN 1909 BY SWAN HUNTER & WIGHAM RICHARDSON OF NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE ANGLO-SAXON PETROLEUM CO LTD. THREE BOILERS, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE OF 448 HP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE RANGOON FOR THE THAMES. CARGO BENZINE. TORPEDOED BY UB 23, 52 OF 56 MEN LOST. BRIDGE CREW PROBABLY KILLED AT ONCE AS TELEGRAPHS REMAINED UNCHANGED. ENGINEERS REMAINED BELOW FOR 3 HOURS BEFORE MANAGING TO GET A BOAT AWAY. VESSEL SANK 8.5 HOURS AFTER BEING HIT. (SIBI).
