CECILIA WAS AN IRON BARQUE BUILT IN 1893 BY MCKERN AT PRESTON. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY P NELSON & CO OR LIVERPOOL. REGISTERED IN LIVERPOOL. TWO DECKS, TWO WATERTIGHT BULKHEADS. 100A1 AT LLOYDS. WAS CARRING A CARGO OF COAR FROM NEWCASTLE-UPON- TYNE TO VALPARAISO WHEN SHE WAS DRIVEN ASHORE AND LOST WITH THE CREW OF 18. 5.5.1917 ANGELA MADRE WAS 122 TON SV OF UNKNOWN CONSTRUCTION. LENGTH 28MTRS, BEAM 7MTRS, DRAUGHT 3.3MTRS. AT 8.53PM ON 5.5.1917 WAS SEEN TO BLOW UP AND SINK WITH THE LOSS OF THE MASTER AND FOUR CREW. BELIEVED THAT THE VESSEL WAS MINED. PASSAGE THAMES FOR NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE. CARGO BURNED ORE.
