Circumstances of loss
BUILT 1990 AT VELIKIY USTYUG. PASSAGE TO FAR EAST OF SOVIET UNION TO BEGIN TRADING WHEN A SEVERE STORM WAS ENCOUNTERED IN BARENTS SEA. HEAVY WEATHER & CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS CAUSED THE VESSEL TO BREAK IN TWO, WITH THE AFTPART SINKING BETWEEN MYS KANIN NOS & OSTROV KOLGUYEV. THE BOW SECTION WAS TAKEN TO ARCHANGEL BY OCEAN-GOING TUG. (LL).
