Simplified Wreck Survey

Underwater wreck obstruction details for the site located at coordinates 50 39.693 N, 1 37.392 W near the Shingles Buoy and The Needles, Isle of Wight. This location was originally identified as a 70-foot long barge with an overall depth of 9 feet, reported to have sunk approximately 200 feet northwest of the Shingles Buoy. Subsequent hydrographic surveys and search operations conducted between 1987 and 2019 by various vessels, including HMSML Gleaner, have repeatedly failed to locate the wreckage at the original position. Multiple disproving searches utilizing echo sounders, side-scan sonar, magnetometers, and modern multibeam (M/B) datasets have resulted in the wreck being classified as dead or non-existent in the reported vicinity. A minor magnetic anomaly was noted in 2000 approximately 175 meters northeast of the primary coordinates, but no structural wreckage has been confirmed at this site. The obstruction is currently listed as not located in official surveys.
