Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck Atlas is an underwater obstruction located at coordinates 48 15.79 N, 4 53.49 W off the coast of France near the Pierre Noires lighthouse. Historical hydrographic surveys from the UK Hydrographic Office and French maritime records trace the documentation of the wreck from 1919 through 2008. Initial charting recorded the wreck symbol, which was later amended to a dangerous wreck with its exact position and depth verified at 55 meters in 1977 and 1993 with a high positional accuracy. Additional updates classified the site as a non-dangerous wreck with a least depth greater than 20 meters before the wreck was officially deleted from official navigational charts following French Notice to Mariners data in September 2008.
