Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck Ashbury is located off the coast of Scotland near Dubh Sgeir Mhor at coordinates 58 32.776 N, 4 24.616 W. Originally lying at a depth of 70 feet, the wreckage has deteriorated significantly over time. While the hull and superstructure were reported in fair condition in 1981, subsequent surveys by divers describe the site as a broken-up scrapyard where little is recognizable beyond the ship's boiler. The wreck does not currently show on echo sounders and is characterized as an area of scattered debris. This site remains a point of interest for historical records and maritime surveying.

(SEA BREEZES, NOV 1981). 3.6.86 DESCRIBED AS VERY MUCH A 'SCRAPYARD' DIVE NOW. LITTLE TO BE RECOGNISED EXCEPT BOILER. (K MCDONALD). 25.3.97 INS AS F. (WRECKS OFFICER). BUILT IN 1924. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE ALEXANDER SHIPPING CO. FOUR BOILERS, TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE WORKINGTON FOR THE TYNE. IN BALLAST. STRANDED AND LOST IN HEAVY WEATHER AND FOG NEAR BLACK ROCKS, TALMAINE SKERRIES, AT MOUTH OF KYLE OF TONGUE. CREW OF 42 ALL LOST.
