Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck of the vessel Ali Reis V is located off the coast of Porto Vecchio, Corsica, at the coordinates 41 36.794 N, 9 22.178 E. The vessel originally ran aground at the entrance to Porto Vecchio on January 11, 1979, after which its cargo was largely stolen and the ship was abandoned with plans for removal. Historical hydrographic surveys note that the wreck was initially visible near the Pecorella Rock light tower before eventually submerging. By 1988, reports confirmed the wreck was no longer visible above the surface, and subsequent 1994 French nautical surveys positioned the submerged wreck 0.6 meters underwater near the original grounding site.
