Circumstances of loss

BUILT IN 1973. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ADVENTURER CRUISES. TWO 8 CYLINDER OIL ENGINE OF 1760KW EACH FOR 16.5 KNOTS, TWIN SHAFT. STRUCK A LARGE UNCHARTED ROCK OR REEF IN SANDFLY PASSAGE. PASSENGER FERRY WAS DESPATCHED TO THE SHIP AND ALL PASSENGERS WERE RECOVERED. AFTER TAKING ON A LIST OF 20 DEGS THE MASTER TOOK THE SHIP INTO RODERICK BAY AND GROUNDED HER TO AVOID SINKING. DECLARED CTL. WAS ALLEDGEDLY THE FIRST SHIP TO TRANSIT THE NW PASSAGE.
