Simplified Wreck Survey

The shipwreck of the iron ship Volga is located off the coast of Pointe Vigie near the entrance to Castries, Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean Sea at coordinates 14 1.439 N, 61 0.325 W. Originally sinking on February 14, 1894, this historic 300-foot iron steam vessel of approximately 2,000 tons lies broken into pieces on a bottom of coral, rock, and sand. The wreck sits close inshore in general depths of 5 meters, with a least multibeam depth of 1.7 meters. Over the decades, surveys by the UK Hydrographic Office and Royal Navy vessels including HMS Mohawk, HMS Hecla, and HMS Fawn documented the deteriorated hull, which is heavily covered in coral with most plates gone, a 15-degree starboard list, and structural metal spars remaining on the port bow.
