General Comments
HISTORY Non-charted geologic feature. H8912/66--Memorandum 67-6-2005, 22 January 1967, Ridge Development Northwest of Double Bluff Light, Admiralty Inlet, Washington. During the hydrographic survey of Admiralty Inlet this past year, unusual ridges were located between lat. 47/58/00N, 47/59/00N and lon 122/34/00W, 122/35/30W at depths ranging from 25 to 60 fathoms. The ranges between ridges and saddles varies from 1 to 9 fathoms. The slope of the bottom between ridge and saddle is about 1:5 in most cases. These ridges appear in an area of otherwise gradual rise. Bottom samples in this area revealed shells, pebbles and gravel. The location of these ridges may be of interest to other scientific research groups working in the Puget Sound area. Center of investigation radius, 47/58/29.65N, 122/34/49.70, calculated at center position of rectangle bounded by above coordinates. (Ent. DAS 2/01/02) H12420 validated the position of the accumulated sediment, evidenced by sand waves, at 47°58'29.6"N, 122°34'49.7"W. Acquired bottom samples consisted of sand, shells, gravel, and pebbles. The ridges noted in this AWOIS item appear to be deposits of a slump area. The feature is in water depths of 20 to 55 fathoms, and spans an area 3,000 meters across from north to south, and 2,300 meters across from east to west. The feature is delineated in the chart update product simply as an area of sandwaves (SNDWAV). (Ent. 01/06/2014).
