Simplified Wreck Survey

The German submarine U-534 was a Type IXC/40 U-boat sunk by British aircraft in May 1945. While historical reports initially placed the wreck near coordinates 56 45 N, 12 10 E in the Kattegat sea between Anholt and the Swedish coast, these early positions were inaccurate. The actual wreck of U-534 was positively located and identified in 1986 at coordinates 56 50 57 N, 11 47 23 E. The vessel is characterized as a welded steel structure and is reported as being well broken. Following its discovery and subsequent recovery, historical records for the initial vague position were amended and the original obstruction entry was deleted from navigational charts.
