Simplified Wreck Survey
The SS Thesis is a well-known shipwreck located off the coast of the Isle of Mull, Scotland, near Eilean Rubha an Ridire. The wreck sits at coordinates 56 29.925 N, 5 41.496 W in approximately 20 meters of water. As of the most recent hydrographic surveys, the wreck lies on a 050/230 degree orientation with a least multibeam depth of 13.92 meters. Measuring 53 meters in length and 8.2 meters in width, the vessel remains largely intact, though it has suffered from historical salvage efforts and natural decay. The bow rests higher up the slope compared to the stern. Divers describe the wreck as heavily encrusted with marine life, offering a popular dive site characterized by tidal streams reaching up to 2 knots. Historical records note the presence of pottery in the holds, and while the structure is considered fragile, the main hull remains clearly defined on sonar. The wreck is situated near the western side of Rubha an Ridire, just south of a small bay, providing a distinct landmark for maritime navigation and recreational diving.
