BUILT IN 1876 BY M PEARCE & CO OF STOCKTON-UPON-TEES. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE GENERAL STEAM NAVIGATION CO. SINGLE BOILER, COMPOUND EXPANSION OF 174 NHP, SINGLE SHAFT. PASSAGE LEITH FOR LONDON. UB 26 FIRED TORPEDO BUT MISSED. SUBMARINE WENT ALONGSIDE AND PLACED SCUTTLING CHARGES WHICH FAILED TO SINK THE SHIP. LATER TORPEDOED AND SUNK. CREW RECOVERED. (SIBI).
