Simplified Wreck Survey
The shipwreck known as Takasan Maru is located at coordinates 4 48.95 S, 122 7.133 E in the waters of the Banda Sea near the coast of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. This underwater wreck lies on a flat sandy bottom at a general depth of 18 meters, with a minimum depth of 7 meters over the structure. The vessel is over 50 meters long, remains relatively intact, and is positioned on its port side with a northeast heading. Heavily encrusted with marine shell growth, the wreck is identified by locals as a Japanese ship bombed during World War II that was later towed to its current position. Due to the significant marine growth, identification remains unconfirmed. Mariners are advised that a commercial guard is requested for this underwater obstruction.

HH100/351/12 1.10.96 LOCATED AND DIVED IN 044857N, 1220708E [WGD] USING GPS. DEPTH OVER WK IS 7MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 18MTRS. LIES ON PORT SIDE HEADING NE. ON FLAT SANDY BOTTOM. LOCALS ADVISE THIS WK WAS BOMBED DURING WW2 SEVERAL MILES AWAY AND WAS TOWED TO THIS POSN BY A JAPANESE NAVAL VESSEL. HEAVILY ENCRUSTED WITH SHELL WHICH MAKES IDENTIFICAITON DIFFUCULT. RELATIVELY INTACT AND IS OVER 50MTRS LONG. MAY BE 'TAKASAN MARU'. COMMERCIAL GUARD REQUESTED. (V SKOGLIE). NCA - STS.
