Simplified Wreck Survey

Unknown Shipwreck off the Cornish Coast Detailed Survey and Dive Report Dive reports and hydrographic surveys from the UK Hydrographic Office detail an unidentified historic shipwreck located off the coast of Cornwall at coordinates 50 25.732 N, 5 11.086 W. Originally investigated by divers in July 1974, the site contains the remains of a very small vessel featuring a single boiler, a compound engine, evidence of a wooden deck, and rather large masts. The boiler represents the highest structural point, standing approximately 10 feet high. Early assessments noted the wreckage was too small to be the steamship Rossmore, which sank in the vicinity. Modern multibeam sonar surveys conducted in March 2010 confirmed the exact wreck position at 50 25.732 N, 5 11.086 W, revealing that likely only the boiler remains today. The submerged obstruction lies in a general depth of 21.3 meters, with a least multibeam depth over the wreck of 19.37 meters and a surrounding scour 0.7 meters deep. The compact remaining structure measures 5.1 meters in length, 4.1 meters in width, and has a height of 2.63 meters. Charted as a dangerous wreck hazard to navigation, this underwater archaeological site provides a fascinating point of interest for marine historians and divers exploring the waters near Cornwall.
